2008 Powder Monkey MTB Race

July 27th 2008

Racers that make the trip up to Duluth for the Powder Monkey MTB Race will be treated to one wild ride. The race course will offer you a 4-6 mile loop with everything from lung searing climbs to white knuckled decents, along with the best singletrack in the state. This will be the closest thing to a Mountain Bike race you will get in the upper Midwest. This course will truly challenge every mountain biker that dares to take on the Monkey.

 

 

REGISTRATION

Registration open at 8am on race day.
Registration ends 1/2 hr prior to start times.

Pre-Riding - July 26

The course will be CLOSED to pre-ride Saturday July26th from. NO ONE is allowed to pre-ride the course on Saturday. This is a stipulation that Spirit Mountain has in order for us to be able to use this land. Thank you all for your cooperation.

* If you have a valid NORBA license and present it at registration you will either receive $2.00 off your race entry fee (Citizen, Sport, and Comp Only) if you register on-site or receive a $2.00 refund when you check-in at registration if you are pre-registered.

Awards

Prizes will be provided for 1st - 3rd place in each age class for Kids Comp, Citizen, Sport, & Comp classes. Top finishing Experts will receive cash awards.

CAMPING

Nestled in a forest on the western high point of Duluth, Spirit Mountain Minnesota Campground offers walk-in tenting as well as 73 campsites equipped with fire pits, picnic tables and electricity. Thirty-nine sites have water hook-ups, and two shower buildings offer 24-hour convenience.


Spirit Mountain overlooks majestic Lake Superior and the St. Louis Bay. Natural beauty abounds in the area - you can quickly and easily access water, hiking and biking trails and much more.

The campground is located just minutes from Downtown Duluth, MN, Canal Park, Bayfront Park, the Lakewalk, shopping and attractions.


Just take Exit #249 off of Interstate 35 and follow the Frontage Road signs to our campground office.

Shimano Youth Series

The Youth Series is designed to give children an opportunity to compete like their parents in a positive and fun environment. Over the years, the Shimano Youth Series has expanded to include over 100 races per year, reaching over 5000 kids.
The Shimano Youth Series is free to children ages 12 & under. Kids receive a t-shirt, stickers, extra goodies, a numberplate, and a shiny new gold medal. Parent cyclists ride and race with the kids, providing motivational and physical support.

Kids Comp - The skill level for this race is more advanced than the Youth Series racer but is not quite ready for the Citizen course distance.

Citizen First Timers – A new class for a first time racer to get the feel of racing in an informal atmosphere. Distance is approximately ½ of the Citizens race.
