While we (The North Central Mountain Bike Patrol) work with the loal land managers, patrol the trail systems of Wisconsin and Minnesota and participate in trail maintenance as the other patrols do, we had one major difference from all the others. NATIONAL MOUNTAIN BIKE PATROL TRAINING JOHN MINOR
Last October I had an opportunity to participate in the first Train the Trainers program for the National Mountain Bike Patrol. This clinic brought regional patrollers from across the United States and Canada together for the first time. It was a unique session as all participants were certified patrollers trained at the regional level using National standards and instructional materials. Since we had already completed the patroller training this clinic concentrated on discussions and workshops designed to use the experiences of the regional patrols to set standards and training guidelines for the National Mountain Bike Patrol. As expected there was a wide variety of differences between the regional patrols. While the basic tenents of assistance, education and trail maintenance held true across the board, the percentages of time spent on them varied as well as additional activities to increase the visibility and funding of
